From my Blackfish Saga Twin Tides. Painted with water colour and accented with crayon and black pen.
Commonly known as ORCAS which was named for Orcas Island where Twin Tides takes place. ORCAS is a combination of wildlife rehabilitation center and ocean research. Designed with the animal rehab center above ground with various healing pools, smaller pond for smaller animals ranging from turtles, ducks to seals and sea lions, even rays and crustaceans. 2 larger pools found at the edge of the ocean, each with a sea level access gate. These pools are built to hold larger sea animals like small whales and dolphins.
The main building consisted of to buildings, the smaller building being a storage room for supplies and tools. A small Over hang attached to the ocean side of the storage building used as a shaded space for healing pools and as well as an outdoor storage area for equipment.
The larger building built for veterinary practice, including a surgery and recovery room. As well as an Internal aquariums for fish and other small sea life used as a small rehabilitation room as well as a teaching aid for visitors and volunteers. connecting to the sea side of the building is a larger overhang used as a shaded area for nesting boxes and healing pools. As well as used as an outdoor work station.
Connecting both building together is an overhang acting as a main entrance. Follow the sand coloured concrete past the small ponds to the larger pools and across the gangway. Extending out into the water sits a concrete pier supporting a small building, used as a dive shack and boat house. extending further out into the water is a floating wooden dock sturdy and rocks slightly, moored to it is ORCAS research vessel the Ocean Gypsy.
Within the Dive shack hides the jewel of ORCAS, Inside the shack houses an elevator, an Elevator that leads down below the ocean, down into an underwater station. Started as an experiment for underwater living and research. 4 bubble domes, 3 smaller ones that house living quarters a large cafeteria and small laboratories and a larger dome that houses 2 pools a smaller one for the housing station of the mini submarine dubbed the "Manta" and a larger pool for diving access into and out of the station. the large pool is also apparently big enough for two orca to fit and not be crowded, much to the surprise of anyone not expecting them to be there.
During construction the shore of the island was carved out to be a sheer drop rather than a gradual grade to make it easier to build the underwater station close to the shore.
Design inspired by Ocean Girl an Austrailian sci fi series from back in the 90s based a little into the future not sure when exactly i'm guessing about 2030-ish maybe further, ORCAS was based off of ORCA (Oceanic Research Center of Australia) which is much larger than ORCAS. Basically ORCAS in my story is the prototype for ORCA. Twin Tides takes place in roughly in 2027.
ORCAS is pretty much the Misty Island Institute of Twin Tides. Yeah be warned blackfish saga is very ocean awareness, wit ha hint of sci-fi.
ignore the orca its not to scale and just a doodle i added when i painted this. This was a paint test for a far larger blue print size sketch.
